Blur the borders
BIENALSUR - FRAC CORSICA - Centre Culturel Una Volta
FRAC Corsica has partnered with Bienalsur - the Buenos Aires-based Contemporary Art Biennale - for a tripartite residency between Argentina, Corsica and Saudi Arabia.
Two artists from each territory went to encounter these other cultures for a three-week photographic research. The Una Volta center is hosting the exhibition, which brings together the six photographers and the three geographies. Moath Alofi, Tasneem Alsultan, Sébastien Arrighi, Laetizia Debain, Laura Glusman, and Nicolàs Janowski are thus brought together through interposed images to erase borders that are as real as they are symbolic, and to tell the story of this link between the local and the global. To accentuate this disappearance of borders, the artists were then asked to add one or two images from their previous works to the series of photographs produced during their residency, with the clear intention of assimilating them in their presentation without making any distinction. Thus, the shots here frame realities that are not devoid of ambiguity and demonstrate that the transparency of images does not exist. The evidence of their territorial anchoring can be lost in similarities and other visual correspondences. If the photographers exhibited have a documentary practice, it remains that their approach is also poetic and slips into the interstices of the reproduction of a reality which never coincides with itself.
