Refuser les entraves

THE CITY OF AIACCIU WELCOMES FRAC CORSICA AT THE CITADEL

20.06.2024 – 04.09.2024
Aiacciu

With the exhibition Refuser les entraves (Refusing Obstacles), the FRAC Corsica offers an unusual insight into its collection, bringing together works without an explicit unifying theme. Each piece asserts its autonomy, refusing to be reduced to the simple illustration of a restrictive concept.

The absence of a predefined subject, on the contrary, invites the viewer to explore the works as free entities, where their polysemy cannot be contained within a single interpretative framework.

It is a tribute to the diversity and complexity of creative thought, which, according to the Dada poet Tristan Tzara, "is done in the mouth." A way of reminding us again and again that artistic thought is not exclusively a matter of abstract ideas but that it is above all a material thought, an embodied thought, a thought in which creation is synonymous with corporeality. By refusing to be hindered by explicit and direct meaning, this exhibition challenges the hegemony of a rational approach to art, celebrating instead the dialogue between sensation and reflection. Refusing shackles is therefore an invitation to recognize and appreciate the way in which art, in its most contemporary form, shapes and reflects our environment, freed from any imposed constraints. By multiplying the echoes and semantic resonances between the works, Refuser les entraves seeks to capture something of the dense polysemy of the world, this flesh that rustles with signs of all kinds and that sometimes frustrates our will when it comes to grasping what surrounds us with a certain transparency, the promise of modernity that is always thwarted.
